The Photographers’ Gallery launch a new limited edition print as a part of their Winter Editions.

‘Slow Moon Rising’

The origin of this work was formed in my series ‘In Darkness Visible’ during which I constructed a forest built from accumulated memory and the ghosts of trees. Created during a period of two winters visiting public spaces in central London with the aim of recreating the sense of a primordial forest within the city.

Although it has taken time to complete it has proved significant in honing my now established practice of working on foot within a refined space. Brought to life in the guise of my current practice it represents for me an extension of the potential.

Built from layered exposures made within a 5x4” film camera until results resembled those envisioned - the production of these works opened a synthesis between reality and abstraction - a distillation through darkness.

In the eighteen years since the origin of this series the symbolism of the forest has grown ever more significant.

Publication in Foto Magazin, the annual large format fine art edition with an introductory text by Tom Seymour. (Available from January 2023).
